Sunday Folk

QUARTERLY CONCERT SERIES

Founded by Karen Law in 2017, Sunday Folk is a quarterly concert series in Nambour, bringing local, national and international touring artists to the town. Shows happen on a Sunday afternoon. The focus is on ‘story-songs’ and the venue provides an ideal setting for a listening audience. Supported by RADF funding for the first couple of years, since then the event has become entirely self-funded, thriving on strong ticket sales and a small team of enthusiastic volunteers.

Sunday Folk is an air-conditioned, seated concert featuring two or three different acts on the same afternoon. It’s held at the Black Box Theatre which is part of the Old Ambulance Station arts precinct on Howard Street in Nambour. There is plenty of parking nearby.

Musicians wishing to get booked to play should email Karen Law via the contact form here.

Naamba Folk Club

THIRD WEDNESDAY, EVERY MONTH

Launched in April 2022, the Naamba Folk Club meets at 6.30pm on the third Wednesday of every month in Nambour. It is run by Karen Law (and her partner David) who host a one-song-at-a-time round robin event with simple amplification. It is a gentle space where songwriters and musicians feel safe to try out new things, dig deep and take part in unplanned collaborations. Magic happens every week. The audience is asked to respect the songs by listening in silence. And they do. No advance bookings, names are taken as you arrive if you’d like to sing.

The venue is Morts Brewing Co on Short Street in the heart of Nambour on the Sunshine Coast. It is a basement craft brewery that opens just for Folk Club on the night (so no distractions) and that definitely adds to the magic. Naamba Folk Club is a grass-roots community event with free entry.
